Treating Social Anxiety [continued] |

To continue treating social anxiety with thought adjustment, I would now like you to consider this FACT: If you can handle any emotional sensation on the inside, then you will be able to handle any event that you find yourself in on the outside. And once you've realized the fact that you can handle any feared event, you have eliminated the need for much of your social anxiety. This is because the worry that leads to anxiety is a simple preoccupation with negative possibilities. But if you know that you could any and all such possibilities, then your mind will be much less likely to dwell on them. Without worry and fear, social anxiety can no longer take root. What are the feared possibilities that cause social anxiety for you? Is it the possibility of rejection? Embarrassment? Judgment? Whatever the possibility or "negative event" is doesn't matter - your mental preoccupation with it will dissolve once you develop trust in the simple fact that you will be able to handle it if it does happen. Repeat the following affirmations out loud as if with every cell of your being, knowing that they're true for you already..
A major reason people ignore the power of traditional "positive" thinking is because of the delay between the thought reversal and feeling reversal. This is why I place emphasis on "self-generating" the congruent feelings, instead of just speaking "positive thoughts". The feeling matters above all - words are empty and powerless without feeling. But don't be too concerned if you cannot create a strong feeling when you first get started here - it takes practice, so just keep doing the best you can. With time, a shift in your emotions and belief system will take place, as you continue generating your new energies day after day.
