Say goodbye to alcohol, cigarettes, and
caffeine
If alcohol has helped reduce your anxiety in the past,
it was most likely because it happened to create a somewhat carefree
mindset at that particular time. But you've probably found that
such results cannot be relied on, as more often the effects of this
drug lead to heightened anxiety levels. Fortunately, we will learn
how to cultivate an anxiety-free mentality with much greater reliability
in the Self Therapy program.
As for nicotine and caffeine, these are both well known nervous
system stimulants which increase heart rate, release stress hormones,
and have the potential for shooting anxiety levels through the roof!
Take a look at the ingredients in foods you eat regularly to make
sure caffeine is not present. This anxiety trigger shows up in some
surprising places, including chocolate desserts, coffee, black tea,
and especially cola. Know that drinking caffeinated beverages later
in the day to fight off drowsiness may just create sleep problems
and fatigue that elevate anxiety. Yes, both nicotine and caffeine
are legal drugs, but they do have a detrimental effect on health,
sleep patterns, and anxiety levels. If you’re serious about
overcoming anxiety, experiment with cutting caffeine and nicotine
out of your diet completely.
